Our Trustees

Fleetwood Trust was formed as a new charity in 2018 by trustees all of whom have either lived, worked or raised their families in the town and brought a variety of skills and experience to the group.

Lord Tom McNally - Chair

Fylde born Tom McNally has had a fifty-year career in and around Westminster and Whitehall.

 

He has been a member of the House of Lords since 1995 and served as an MP from 1979 to 1983. He was Minister of State for Justice and Deputy Leader of the House of Lords, 2010-13 and Chairman of the Youth Justice Board for England & Wales 2014-17.

 

He is a member of the Privy Council and a Fellow of University College London.

Maureen Burns.jpg

Maureen Burns - Secretary

Maureen is a local Fleetwood girl, born and bred. She went to Flakefleet School and then to Fleetwood Grammar School.

 

Now a retired Senior Civil Servant she has over 35 years’ experience managing large scale change programmes and was awarded an OBE in 2010. Although in her long career she has worked all over the UK, Fleetwood has always been home.

 

Married to Liam, she likes gardening and spending time with her family especially her two young Grandchildren.

Rebecca Murdoch - Treasurer

Rebecca is Fleetwood Born and bred. She is well connected with many community groups and organisations in Fleetwood that work with and support the community.

 

She is an accountant and had a career as a tax consultant with KPMG until 2 years ago when she started her business, Brambles Finance and Consultancy, in Fleetwood.

 

Rebecca is passionate about the town, the community and this project.

Frank Heald - Trustee

Frank is Fleetwood born and bred. From university, he joined the family grocery business (founded 1923) which developed over 32 years into the Day & Nite convenience store chain with 100 branches in the North of England before it was sold in 2000.

 

Frank then started Voiteq, a software company specialising in voice recognition systems for warehouse operation. With offices in France, Germany and the USA and a global business designing and installing voice systems for the UK and International clients this was sold in 2019. 

 

Frank now dedicates his time to Fleetwood.

Andy Charles - Trustee

Andy set up and manages the Blackpool Pride of Place Partnership, which is a business-led group made up from the public, voluntary and private sector. Their mission is to promote economic development and tackle some of the Fylde Coasts challenges.

 

He works hard to lobby and campaign on regeneration locally and nationally, using the best of the public, private and voluntary sectors to achieve results.

 

Andy is a co-founder of the Magic Club in Claremont, a youth provision created in one of the most deprived places in England. It aims to help make a difference and change the future for young people.

Father Alf Hayes - Trustee

Father Alf was ordained into the priesthood in 1972 and became the Parish Priest for St Wulstan's and St Edmund's 10 years ago.

 

He is one of the founding members of the Fleetwood Trust and is committed to the development of the Hospital project and the community hub.

 

Father Alf developed and promoted the Foodbank that has been a great support for people in food poverty.

Canon John Hall - Trustee

Father John became the Vicar of St. Peter and St. David Fleetwood, 11 years ago.

 

He loves being here by the sea and working within the community of Fleetwood and with a great set of people. Father John was ordained thirty-three years ago and has spent his time in Carnforth, Nelson and Preston.

 

John is originally from Chorley and is married to Sandra, who is a Headteacher in Accrington, they have three grown-up girls who have all virtually left home.

Bryan Olsen - Trustee

Bryan is a retired chartered quantity surveyor and when working for John Turner & Sons (Preston) Ltd in the 1980s was project quantity surveyor for the building of Fleetwood Hospital.

 

Bryan has been a member of Fleetwood RUFC since 1971 and recently served as President. He has had a keen interest in both sport and charity for some considerable time and is extremely pleased and honoured to be asked to be a trustee for the project which will be greatly beneficial for the regeneration of Fleetwood.

Tom Birch - Trustee

On Tom’s retirement from ICI, he formed EBD Consultants and built a reputation with small and medium-sized businesses for common-sense business management support and human resource development.

 

Over the last 25 years, Tom has been the local church leader at Fleetwood United Reformed Church, a post which required being to all intentand purposes a (lay-)minister.

JJ Fitgerald - Trustee

JJ has 15 years’ experience in the building industry, 8 as managing director of a successful and growing local business which employs over 30 people.

 

He has a proven track record of supporting, leading and managing projects and for delivering exceptional service. His success has enabled him to become active in the local community and he has found that the simple values of giving back and doing good immensely rewarding.

 

JJ helps fund a community amateur boxing club in Layton, where he trains twice a week and coaches boxing skills to the young people. He is a keen kitesurfer, surfing regularly off theFleetwood coast.

Dr Mark Spencer - Trustee

Mark has been a GP at the Mount View Practice in Fleetwood since 1991.

 

He is the Clinical Director for Fleetwood Primary Care Network and a community champion for Healthier Fleetwood.
